Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director
North Little Rock, Ark. – Opening their final weekend of the regular season, Central Baptist College baseball hosted the Harris-Stowe State Hornets this evening in an American Midwest Conference doubleheader at DeSalvo Memorial Stadium. CBC (28-19, 13-7 AMC) swept HSSU (3-24, 1-18 AMC), winning 8-2 and 10-3 to setup a possible senior day sweep tomorrow.
GAME ONE – CBC 8, HSSU 2
Brayden Mayencourt opened the scoring in game one, blasting a two-run opposite field home run, his first of the season, to make it 2-0 in the first inning. A Mayencourt single in the third inning increased the lead to 3-0 and a single by George Astacio and a bases loaded walk issued to Cesar Franco made the score 5-0 after three. Harris-Stowe's only runs against Jaxon Kirkhuff came in the fourth inning to cut the lead to 5-2 until CBC tacked on two in the bottom half thanks to doubles by Preston White and Ryan Dauphinee and Dauphinee's sixth inning sac fly gave CBC their largest lead of the game. Kirkhuff threw a complete game, allowing two runs on four hits with three Ks for his sixth win.
GAME TWO – CBC 10, HSSU 3
The Hornets took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning in the second game until the Mustangs answered with four in the bottom of the first to take a 4-1 lead courtesy of a Dauphinee single, a Mayencourt single and a pair of errors. The lead was chopped to 4-2 in the top of the third until Dauphinee's sixth home run of the season made it 5-2 after three innings. Sac flies by Josh Lumsden and White in the fourth inning made the score 7-2 before Harris-Stowe added an unearned run in the sixth to bring the score to 7-3. A White double and a balk in the sixth inning made it 9-3 before Cesar Franco's seventh inning single brought home the final run. Aiden Jones picked up win number six, allowing five hits and three runs (one earned) with three strikeouts in seven innings. Eric de Jesus struck out the side in the eighth and Trey Watson threw a perfect ninth with a strikeout to secure the win.
