Mustangs Drop Opening Round Heartbreaker to Bryan

Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director

Williamsburg, Ky. – Competing in the NAIA Opening Round today for the first time since 2016, American Midwest Conference tournament champion Central Baptist College baseball took on the Bryan Lions today in the first game of the Williamsburg Regional at Buhl Stadium. CBC (34-19) nearly completed a comeback after trailing 6-1 after six innings before losing to BC (28-23) 8-7.

Brayden Mayencourt got the scoring started for the Mustangs with a single in the first inning to give CBC a 1-0 lead. Bryan tied the game in the third inning, put CBC down 3-1 in the fifth and then score three in the sixth to put the Mustangs down five. However, CBC would not go away, as Aaron Prince clubbed his ninth home run of the season, a three-run blast, to cut the deficit to 6-4 in the seventh. Bryan made it 7-4 in the bottom of the seventh before the Mustangs tied the score at seven in the ninth on a Cesar Franco single, a Garrett Fitts single, his fifth hit of the day and a sac fly by Preston White. Bryan would load the bases with one out off Jamin Smith before walking the game off on a sac fly of their own.

CBC will look to avoid elimination tomorrow when they face former AMC rival Missouri Baptist. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
