#MustangsWin! CBC Beats John Brown On The Road For the First Time!

            Siloam Springs, Ark. – Playing their final game of a five-game road trip, Central Baptist College men's basketball took on in-state rival John Brown this afternoon at Bill George Arena. CBC (2-4) used great defense and a second half surge to race past JBU (3-2) 76-70.

            Jason Hunt led the way again for CBC with 34 points, including 23 in the first half. MacArthur Reed, Jr. also finished in double figures with 17 while Dalton Alexander III had a season-high 10 rebounds. CBC held John Brown to just 31 percent shooting in the second half and made nine more free throws in the contest while forcing 13 turnovers.

GAME FLOW

            Hunt opened the scoring in the game with a three 57 seconds in and the game was within six for the entire half, which ended tied at 37 after Hunt beat the buzzer with a jumper. John Brown took a four-point lead, 46-42, with 15:12 to play and the Mustangs kept chipping away, taking the lead for good on a three by Alexander with 11:10 left to lead 54-51. The Golden Eagles would get within a point on the ensuing possession, but CBC closed strong as the led by eight with 23 seconds remaining before the score settled at its final.

MUSTANG NOTES

  • Hunt finished with 30 points or more for the third time this season. Only Ryan Barnes had more 30-point games in a season, doing so four times in the 2008-09 campaign
  • Hunt made 13-plus field goals for the third time this season
  • CBC outshot JBU 49-37 percent from the field
  • CBC made 16 free throws compared to seven for JBU
  • CBC won for the seventh time in program history when the score was tied at the half
  • CBC won at John Brown for the first time ever and beat the Golden Eagles in back-to-back seasons for the first time ever
