Mustangs Lose 2026 Opener to Mission

Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director

Springfield, Mo. – Playing for the first time in 2026, Central Baptist College men's basketball was at W.E. Dowell Fieldhouse tonight for an American Midwest Conference clash with the Mission University Patriots. CBC (5-10, 2-1 AMC) couldn't contain a potent MU (6-9, 2-0 AMC) offense, falling 87-81.

Jason Hunt led the way with 29 points off the bench and he was joined in double figures by Tyler Johnson with 12, Caleb Knight with 11 and Derek Magwood with 10. CBC won the rebounding battle 44-40, but only shot 38 percent from the field while allowing Mission to shoot 53 percent from the floor in a game that saw five ties and 15 lead changes.

The Mustangs continue their road trip on Thursday when they head to Hannibal, Mo., for a conference clash with Hannibal-LaGrange. Tipoff from the Mabee Sports Complex is slated for 3 p.m.
