Softball Splits on Second Day of LCU Play Day

Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director

LeCompte, La. – Following a split on day one of the Louisiana Christian University Play Day, Central Baptist College softball looked for two wins on the second day of the tournament against Texas A&M-San Antonio and Webber International. CBC (2-2) earned a split, run-ruling TAMUSA 10-2 in six innings before falling to WIU (1-4) 8-6 in the final game.

GAME THREE – CBC 10, TAMUSA 2 (SIX INNINGS)

TAMUSA took the early lead with a run in the second before the Mustangs pushed across four in the fourth thanks to a two-run double by Sydney Weiser, an error off the bat of Taviah Bradley and a passed ball. CBC would add four more in the fifth thanks to another two-run double by Weiser, a single by Bradley and a sac fly by Dakota Hobson. The Jaguars would make it 8-2 in the six before the Mustangs ended the game with a solo home run by Kinley Johnson, her third and a game-ending double by Anna Marie Sternisha. Alex Jeter went the distance for the win, allowing just five hits and two runs (one earned) with a strikeout.

GAME FOUR – WEBBER INTERNATIONAL 8, CBC 6

CBC jumped ahead early in game two, plating a run in the first on a single by Elizabeth Stoufer to make it 1-0. Webber would tie the game in the third before CBC retook the lead courtesy of an error off the bat of Abi West and a two-run double from Sternisha. CBC plated their final two runs in the fourth on a double by Kori Truelove and a single by Johnson. Melanie Phillips cruised through the first 6.1 innings before being relieved by Kayla O'Kelley. O'Kelley would not retire a batter and Hailey Marange came in to try to secure the win, but the Warriors would score seven times and Marange would take the loss, spoiling a six strikeout performance from Phillips.
