Conway, Ark. – Playing at the friendly confines of City of Colleges Park for the first time this season, Central Baptist College softball hosted the Lions of Nelson University this afternoon. CBC (6-12) swept the doubleheader from NU (3-7), taking game one 2-1 before winning game two 4-3 on a walk off.
GAME ONE – CBC 2, NELSON 1
Nelson got on the board first in the second inning on an error, making it 1-0. A single by Taviah Bradley in the third tied the score at one and an error brought home the only other run in the fifth. Alex Jeter dominated for her third win of the season, throwing a complete game seven-hitter, allowing just one unearned run while walking one and striking out two.
GAME TWO – CBC 4, NELSON 3
CBC got out to an early lead in the second game, thanks to a solo home run by Elizabeth Stoufer, her second of the season, to make it 1-0 after two. A Kaylee Harp single in the fourth made it a 2-0 game and a Kori Truelove single in the fifth made it 3-0. Nelson struck in the sixth, cutting the lead to 3-2 before tying the game on a bases loaded walk in the seventh, setting up drama in the bottom half. Madalyn Tubbs doubled to lead off the inning and moved to third on a bunt by Bradley. Following intentional walks to Truelove and Kinley Johnson to load the bases, Abi West was hit by a pitch on the first pitch of her at bat to score Tubbs and pick up the sweep. Isabella Sawyers started and went sixth-and-two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on five hits with five walks and four strikeouts. Hailey Marange picked up her first win, retiring the only batter she faced in the seventh.
