Conway, Ark. – Returning home for the final time on a weekend, Central Baptist College softball hosted the Cottey Comets today in an American Midwest Conference doubleheader at City of Colleges Park. CBC (24-20, 13-5 AMC) won both games over Cottey (19-21, 9-9 AMC) in walk-off fashion, taking game one 2-1 before winning game two 3-2 in eight innings.
GAME ONE – CBC 2, COTTEY 1
Cottey took the lead in the first inning, 1-0, and held the lead until the fourth. Baylie Ainsworth singled in the bottom half of that inning to tie the game and the score remained tied heading in the seventh. Madalyn Tubbs led off the inning with a walk and moved to third on a single off the bat of Taviah Bradley. Two batters later, Kori Truelove singled to left center to end the game, scoring Tubbs and ending the game. Alex Jeter threw a complete game four-hitter on 73 pitches, allowing the lone run and walking one.
GAME TWO – CBC 3, COTTEY 2 (EIGHT INNINGS)
Cottey scored first again in game two, plating a run in the first and a run in the third and led 2-0 through three innings. Elizabeth Stoufer put CBC on the scoreboard in the fourth with a solo home run to make it 2-1. In the seventh, Abi West tied the game with a solo shot of her own to make it 2-2 and send the game to an extra frame. Following a 1-2-3 top of the eighth by Isabella Sawyers, CBC would walk the Comets off again. Bradley singled with one out and Truelove doubled to put runners on second and third for Kinley Johnson, who grounded out to second base to score Bradley and end the contest. Sawyers earned the win with three hitless innings of relief, striking out three in the process. Ryleigh Keele started and went 2.2 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits with a walk. Kayla O'Kelley relieved Keele and allowed only one hit in 2.1 innings of relief.
