#MustangsWin! CBC Comes From Behind In Fourth Quarter To Down Harris-Stowe!

Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director

Conway, Ark. – Looking to bounce back after an American Midwest Conference opening loss, Central Baptist College women's basketball hosted the Harris-Stowe State University Hornets tonight in an American Midwest Conference contest at A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse. CBC (4-6, 1-1 AMC) was down 12 with 1:50 left in the third quarter but outscored HSSU (2-6, 0-2 AMC) 29-20 in the fourth to come away with an 86-82 win.

Cammi Christie and Raigan Head were the co-leading scorers with 20 points apiece (with Christie's all coming off the bench) while Aliya Grotjohn added 15 and Anslee Ballew had 12 off the bench. Head notched a double-double, grabbing 14 rebounds while Addison Hudspeth had 11 boards of her own. CBC was plus-18 points from beyond the arc and plus-14 points at the charity stripe.

GAME FLOW

The Lady Mustangs scored the first point of the game and started on a 15-4 run over the first 5:03 of the game. CBC would lead 27-20 after a quarter and 40-38 at the break. CBC fell behind early in the third quarter and saw the deficit reach 62-50 with 1:50 left in the penultimate period. Christie then took matters into her hands, knocking down a three to cut the deficit to nine with 1:40 to go with the deficit getting trimmed to five by the end of the quarter thanks to free throws by Christie and Head. The Hornets looked to put the game out of reach, pushing the deficit to 68-57 with 8:48 remaining before the Lady Mustangs began chipping away.

The deficit was trimmed to 76-69 with 5:30 to go before a layup by Grotjohn and a three by Hudspeth cut the deficit to 76-74 with 4:27 left. The teams would trade buckets until a free throw by Christie tied the score at 79 with 2:23 to go and a Hudspeth layup 21 seconds later gave CBC their first lead since halftime. HSSU stung back and retook the lead 82-81 before a jumper by Grotjohn and free throws by Christie and Riley Whittington gave CBC the four-point win.
